Sound reaches the audience before thought does.
ViaSon is a London-based audio post production company led by Academy Award-winning sound designer Johnnie Burn, working across London and Los Angeles.
We design sound as part of the storytelling — shaping perspective, tension, and emotion from the earliest stages through to final mix.
Sound reaches the brain
before thought does.
The eye can be closed. The ear cannot. We begin at the script — not the mix — so that what the audience hears arrives at the body ahead of the image, and the image has somewhere to land when it does.
Our practice is documentary in its sourcing and architectural in its construction. Every film has a room that does not appear on camera. We build the room.

We engage at the script stage, not in post. The approach is documentary; the room is built before the camera rolls.
We read before we record. The unseen film is sketched at the writing table — what is heard, what is withheld, what is implied.
Long-form location recording. Rooms, weather, machinery, wildlife. The documentary texture of the world before it is staged.
Bespoke impulse responses. Acoustic modelling of spaces that do not appear on camera. Convolved dialogue, spatialised in Atmos.
A final pass with the director, in the box. No fixing — only finishing. The cut is judged by what the body feels, not by what the eye confirms.

For new projects, we prefer to meet at the script. Bring us the page, and we will build the room around it.
